The American Series-Dining on the Memories of FreedomOil on Canvas. Presented in a white box wooden frame. 49.5'' x 37.5'' x 1.5''. 2017
Part of Thomas's 2017 The American Series this image sees the stars removed from the American flag and the stripes reversed commenting on how traditional democratic values have been turned upside down. The flag now forms a wall with a dismembered limb straddling it. Above this a butcher works at a slab of flesh on a table while diners wait to be served.
What Thomas says about his work in the header picture:
'Here is some detail from my latest series of paintings discussing the damaging effects of building walls instead of knocking them down. In each work the Stars and Stripes is arranged as a dividing line in the image. The stars have been removed and the stripes reversed questioning the status of established democratic values.'
