Garden of the Gods

in Travel

An afternoon spent among giants. Towering sandstone figures dwarf the wide-eyed tourists that walk the trails surrounding the sculpted stones.

I wanted to be small, insignificant and between the summit of Pikes Peak and the many giant God like figures of stone, I think I found my place.

The people are friendly, everyone seems at the same level of awe. You wander in circles around the structures. With a backdrop of the blue Colorado sky, the rich orange sandstone glimmers surrounded by yellow wildflowers.

You see a history, millions of years in the making in the rocks as the earths' upheaval created huge peaks and glaciation further sculpted these amazing forms.

The native people had a connection to these structures, there have even been petroglyphs located in the park. There is a feeling of awe, an almost spiritual presence. A place not to miss if you are in the Colorado Springs area.
