Honestly I had never heard of Grand Lake before but on this day it became an oasis. You start out at 7:30 in the morning and you're enthusiastic and full of energy.
Somewhere between the numerous overviews and turnouts and the short hikes on rocky terrain I got warn out. It's 6:30 now and I'm about done driving.
I had planned on visiting Rocky Mountain National Park today but instead I will end up just a mile or two from the entrance.
Winter Park looked like a nice place to stay the night, so did Grandby but I would end up too far from the park and have a longer ride to the airport in the afternoon.
Grand Lake is a town where every one is friendly. There are tourists exploring, families walking in and out of the small shops. I had a wonder dinner of Trout Almondine at the Terrace Inn, a bed and breakfast, and got to talk with the owner. I also treated myself to and old fashion which was mixed to perfection and enjoyed a Creme Brûlée which was very memorable.
I was so happy to finally stop. In the morning I had an amazing breakfast at a local store and got back on the road refreshed with a great sleep and a wonderful meal. I was ready for the long ride in the Rocky Mountain National Park.
